IN THE BEGINNING: STORIES OF CREATION
The Fabulary is publishing In the Beginning: Stories of Creation, an anthology of illustrations and stories proposing new creation myths for our changing world, in Summer 2004.Every culture has creation myths, stories shaped by that culture and shaping it in return. The amazing synergy of information technology and the investigation of genetic molecules has enabled us to explore the origins of life in a remarkable way. In addition, new instruments and techniques allow us to watch the births of galaxies, and to take "pictures" of the -- our? -- universe's distant past, calculate its shape, and speculate on its future. What are our new stories?
Interested writers should send a story proposal (with a planned word count) and two writing samples (500-1000 words preferred) by June 30, 2004 (extended). If your proposal is accepted, we will set a date for you to submit the final piece. We will also review completed pieces; contact us by June 30 to make arrangements. We will not accept Word attachments; please share your clips as URLs or as text within the email message. Send proposals and queries to the editor, Caitlin Burke.
We are also accepting art for this anthology. If you are an illustrator, please send us an illustration proposal and a link to your online portfolio. The theme art for this anthology was created by Bri Hermanson.
In the Beginning: Stories of Creation was conceived and is managed by Caitlin Burke. Each anthology at the Fabulary is a joint effort of contributors, editor, and publisher, and each contributor retains ownership of his or her work.
